WHAT’S GOIN’ ON?! Newsletter

Vroom, vroom! It’s time to start your engines and race into May! The weather is becoming just lovely, so I know your calendars are filling up quickly. Here’s what is happening with your Church family this month…

First up, Sunday, May 1. If you like meetings, then this is your day! Council meeting is at 8:30am, followed by the Business meeting after morning worship, followed by a Deacon meeting at 4:00pm, followed by Bible study at 6:00pm. I suggest bringing a pillow, blanket and lots of snacks!

Next Sunday, May 8, is Mother’s Day…don’t forget to dote and love on your wives and mommas!…they do some hard work, y’all! This momma is hoping for a trip to Starbucks for a caffeine infusion! (Side note: I believe there will not be Sunday night Bible study.)

Wednesday, May 11, is the last MOPS small group meeting for this season. The ladies meet from 10:00-11:30am for a little grown-up momma time and encouragement. New ladies are still making their way to this group. If you want to give a little of your time and help them watch their littles, I am sure you will bless them all tremendously! Wednesday, May 25, is a MOPS play date, also from 10:00-11:30am. Contact Meredith about details for play dates over the summer months.

Saturday, May 14 from 6:00-10:00pm, is Parents’ Night Out. Drop the kids off, go out (or sleep in the car, if you’re too tired to actually go anywhere!), and remember when you and the hubs got to do what you wanted to do! Bless!

Sunday, May 15, during the Sunday school hour, Pastor Garry will be leading a one-time Outreach Training Session for all Youth and Adult Sunday school classes. The class will meet in the sanctuary, so if when you get to your classroom and no one is there…well, you get it! Teens on up are encouraged to attend. Same day, different time…4:30pm to be exact…the Mission Team will be meeting, doing all the awesome things they do!

VBS! WooHoo! WooHoo! Want to help out but don’t know where? Do you react to children like Mike, Sully and all their friends from Monsters, Inc.? Don’t panic! There is a spot for everyone! Check with Molly and Natalie to find out what you can do…don’t miss out on the fun! VBS will be June 5-10…block out your schedules to make sure that you are available to participate!

Warmer weather means more fellowship opportunities (and more eating)! Here are the dates through early fall: May 22, June 12, July 10, August 14, and September 11. Start looking through your recipes now…see you next month!

April 2016 Newsletter

WHAT’S GOIN’ ON?! Newsletter

And just like that…it’s April! Spring is here!  We have green buds coming up from the ground, green leaves starting to sprout, and sniffling and sneezing because of the higher pollen count!  Yep!  It’s definitely spring!  Here’s what is happening this month…

First up on the list is a brand new 1-day Membership Information Class. This class will meet immediately after morning service on Sunday, April 10.  A light lunch will be provided for those wishing to participate, so please contact Pastor Garry or Sue ASAP so they can get a head count for food prep.  Usually this class meets for 4 consecutive Sunday mornings to cover the same material.  If you have struggled to make time to attend and finish the class, this 1-day class should be a better fit for you!

With spring comes the very fun and exciting chore of spring cleaning! Yippee!  Come join in the very fun and exciting time of Church Work day on Saturday, April 9 from 8am-noon!  It should be very fun and exciting!  (Not convinced? Say it with me…) It should be very fun and exciting!!  (I know…humor me…)  See you there!

If you are part of the Parents’ Night Out, you are in for a treat this month! There are three different opportunities to pretend that you are grown-ups that have lives apart from your children!  Saturday, April 2, 16, and 30th from 6-10pm are your chances to make a break for it and run for the border…Good luck!

Don’t forget about MOPS! They will be starting to wind down with just a handful of meetings left, but you still have two opportunities this month to meet.  Wednesday, April 13, for small group…and Wednesday, April 27, for play date.  Start time is 10am and they finish up around 11:30…unless the speaker goes on, and on, and on!

On April 15-16, will be a Women’s Retreat in Indianapolis. There is info on the foyer table about ‘Transformed,’ or talk with Lori Jones for any questions you might have.

The Missions team has been giving out ideas each month to help you put together your Operation Christmas Child boxes a little at a time! This month their suggestion is to look for and purchase stuffed animals.  All children like something cute, soft and furry!  But taxidermy items excluded, please!….ugh!

Last up for the month is VBS! WooHoo!  We’re only two months out and Molly and Natalie still have some holes that need to be filled.  There is a workers sign-up sheet on the foyer table and there is a spot for you!  The theme is ‘Submerged,’ so work on your dance moves by practicing the Swim and the Wave and drag that old wetsuit out of your closet…those air tanks are gonna be heavy, though…See you in May!

Here we are, marching toward spring! Aaah! My favorite season! If the world coming back to life and turning green and pretty doesn’t make you want to jump up and praise God, then I don’t know what will! What’s happening this month, you say? Read on and I will tell you….

There is a new Membership Information Class starting Sunday, February 28. It will meet in room 105 at 9:30 a.m. during the Sunday school hour. The class will run through Sunday, March 20. Contact Pastor Garry if you are interested.

Ladies, a new Bible study is beginning on Monday, February 29. We will meet from 6:30-8:00 p.m. and will be discussing the study “Jesus: Experiencing His Touch.” Books are $8 and all ladies and teenage girls are welcome to attend. See Lori Jones for more info and to sign up!

MOPS will be meeting from 10:00-11:30 a.m. on Wednesdays, March 9 and March 23. As usual, the first meeting will be for their small groups and the second meeting will be a play date.  Hopefully, it will warm up a little bit for the play date to be outside! Have fun!

Parents Night Out will only happen once this month, so make it count! Saturday, March 12, from 6:00-10:00 p.m. is your chance for some adult-only time and conversation! Or maybe just some good old peace and quiet! Enjoy!

Sunday, March 13, will be a very telling day…if you forget to SPRING forward, you are going to be LATE to church and EVERYBODY is going to know! Set your clocks ahead before you go to bed or get up an hour earlier so you’re not THAT person!

Friday, March 18, hang out with some cool teens and the Blystones and head to Winter Jam in Indy! Information is in the bulletin or you can go to for all the details.

Looking ahead…the Women’s Retreat, “Transformed,” will be April 15-16 in Indy. There is some information on the foyer table or check with Lori Jones if you have questions. Even better, you can check the website for all the latest news.

VBS is coming to First Baptist of Rockville this year!!! Mark your calendars for June 5-9, and grab your wetsuit and scuba gear!!! Molly Blystone and Natalie Newnum are heading the ministry this year and they want you to get ‘SUBMERGED!’ Be praying about how God is calling you to serve Him and the kids in our community. Say “YES to VBS!”

That’s it for March! Have a great month and let’s make it count!

WHAT’S GOIN’ ON?! Newsletter

So can you believe January has already come and gone? That was fast!  What is happening in February?  Well, as it just so happens, I’m glad you asked!  Since it is winter, we’re taking it easy…not too many items this month.  Here’s the skinny…

Of course we are still business as usual, even if it is winter! Each Wednesday there will be Kids 252 & Youth Group with dinner at 6:00 p.m. and study time for everyone (including you grown-ups!) starting at 6:30 p.m.  Activities wrap up around 7:30 p.m.

The MOPS group will get together on Wednesday, February 10, for small group time. Wednesday, February 24, will be the usual play date.  Both of the meet times will be from 10:00-11:30 a.m.  Check with Meredith Lund if you need more information.

Since I’m talking about the kiddos, let’s go ahead and mention the Parent’s Night Out ministry! These will take place on Saturday, February 13 and Saturday, February 27.  April Smith is heading this up, so she’s the chick in the know if you have a question about exact times or signing up.

Sunday, February 7, is our usual “it’s a busy Sunday with meetings and stuff!” The Council meeting will be at 8:30 a.m. and the Business meeting will take place after the morning worship service.  Plan to attend and hear about what is going on so you can know how you can help get ‘er done!

Bible Studies! Ladies, you have two more weeks:  Monday, February 1 and Monday, February 8 at 6:30 p.m.  Don’t miss these…we need to encourage each other!  Gentlemen, your weeks are Thursday, February 11 and Thursday, February, 25 at 7:30 p.m.  No idea what the men do, but I’m sure it’s good!  Get after it!

Last, but certainly not least!…Adam and Kaitlynn Overpeck are expecting a little boy! There will be a baby shower for them on Saturday, February 6, at 10:30 a.m. and ALL the ladies are invited to attend.  Kaitlynn has registered at Target and Toys ‘R’ Us to give ideas about what they still need.  Please RSVP to Kathy Keller if you are able to attend (and, between you and me, ask if she’s making that really yummy coffee punch, because it’s really good and I just KNOW you’d like to have some!…but don’t tell her I told you to ask!).

That’s it for this month…I told you there wasn’t a lot going on…just the basics. Winter hasn’t been too bad so far.  Enjoy the down time, make some soup, and invite another family over for some good old fellowship!  “Therefore encourage one another and build up one another, just as you also are doing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:11)

December 2015 Newsletter

WHAT’S GOIN’ ON?! Newsletter

Ladies and gentlemen, we are on our final approach into 2016.  The pilot has turned on the seatbelt light and we ask that you stow all your loose items in the overhead bins.  Please return your seats and tray tables to their full, upright positions and prepare for what can be the craziest month of the entire year…breathe…it will be just fine!

December is usually an unusual month (see what I did there?). We have extra activities, activities that get cancelled for the holidays, lots of chances to eat more food…you get it!  Let’s talk kid-related activities first!  Kids 252 and Youth will meet as usual on Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m., but only on December 2, 9 and 16.  MOPS will meet only on Wednesday, December 9, from 10:00-11:30 a.m. for their monthly Small Group meeting and childcare will be provided so they can have five minutes to themselves!  Breathe, mommas!  You’re doing great!

On to adult activities!  The Men’s Bible study will meet Thursday, December 3 and 17, at 7:30 p.m. and the Wednesday night Adult study will meet at 6:30 p.m. each week through the end of the year.  Sunday, December 6, is our last Council and Business meetings for the year.  You know how this goes…council meeting at 8:30 a.m. and business meeting following the morning worship service.  We’re voting on the 2016 budget, so it’s important for Andy to see all our smiling faces!

Activities for the whole family!  Saturday, December 5, Chris Blystone will be taking a group to Normal, IL, to serve the Feed My Starving Children ministry.  This would be a great way for even elementary-aged kids to see how their idea of food is different from other kids their age around the world.  Let’s raise up a new generation who have hearts for service and missions!  See Chris for details.  We have another Church Work Day on the books to spruce up just in time for Christmas and our guests!  Yay!  Meet up with your favorite church family members on Saturday, December 12, from 8:00-Noon, and prepare to sing carols while you work!  Or, if you prefer, you may run in place or from room to room and just watch those pounds melt away!  We’ll sweep them up while we clean!  What could be better than that?!  (Okay, I feel like I’m overselling this, but hey…I gotta try!…)

Moving on to the Lottie Moon offering and Candlelight Service…Envelopes will be passed out on Sunday, December 13, and the collection will be the following Sunday, December 20, during the morning worship service.  With Christmas falling on a Friday this year, the Candlelight Service will be on Sunday, December 20, at 6:00 p.m.  Let’s be intentional this year by slowing down the “Crazy” and preparing our hearts to celebrate the birth of our Savior with one another.  Then we can go out into a world that desperately needs Christ, and shine our lights for all to see!  Watch the bulletin for details…

That’s it for 2015, people!  We have arrived!  Gather your belongings and prepare to de-board!  See you next year!  Have a Merry Christmas!
