June 2015 Newsletter

WHAT’S GOIN’ ON?! Newsletter

It’s time to downshift into summer, people!  June is upon us!  Put the shovels away and change the oil in your mowers!  And sunscreen…use sunscreen…you’ll thank me later!

MOPS is H.O.T.!  So hot, they are needing more peeps to help them out this fall.  Be thinking on that, praying on that, and listening to see if God is calling you to help in this ministry.  They are starting their summer schedule with two play dates for the month of June…Wednesday, June 3, and Thursday, June 18.  Time and location will vary depending on the activity planned.  Want to know what, where, and exactly when?  Get on the horn and call Meredith Lund (592-4405) or Lainey McCrory (765-505-2610) to get the details.

Have you been attending our church and thinking maybe this is where God would have you serve Him?  Pastor Garry has just what you’re looking for!  A new membership class will be beginning on Sunday, June 7.  This class will meet from 9:30-10:20ish for four consecutive Sundays.  Learn what the Bible has to say about church membership and how each of us is needed to fulfill our role in the church body!

Guess what?  It’s been three months…Church Work Day!  WOO HOO!  WOO HOO!  (C’mon…use your excited voice, jump up and down, and read that again!)  While it would be very cool if the church would just clean itself, unfortunately, it doesn’t work that way!  Ever heard of the saying, “Many hands make light work”?  Carve out just a little time in your schedule for Saturday, June 13, between 8 a.m. and noon, and be an encouragement to your brothers and sisters in Christ.  While you’re here, we can work on that self-cleaning idea…there are self-cleaning ovens, right?  Just sayin’!

Sunday, June 21, is Father’s Day.  We’d love to see you for morning worship, but after Pastor Garry says, “AMEN.”  Run home, get the grill hot, throw on your burgers, steaks, bratwursts, or anything resembling MEAT!  Then, let Dad nap (all afternoon if he likes) and don’t even wake him to ask him if he’s going to sleep ALL day.  (I’ve never done that, by the way…)  Since there will be no evening activities at church in our celebration of fathers, may I suggest an impromptu service at our local Dairy Queen?  I can think of more than a few fathers that would find that heavenly!

Be sure to check the bulletin for any information about Men’s Ministry opportunities and Church Fellowships this month.  Have a great day!

April 2015 Newsletter

WHAT’S GOIN’ ON?! Newsletter

Spring has sprung! I’ve been hearing birds singing (sounds like the Hallelujah Chorus to me!) and signs of God’s glory in creation getting ready to sprout all over the place! Bring it on, April!  Let’s go!

Now I know this is technically still a March event, but I think this will be cool, so I’m including it!  That said, on Sunday, March 29, there will be a Senior Adult Ministry meeting at noon.  All senior adults are invited to attend to discuss the formation of a Senior Ministry.  There will be a pitch-in before the meeting, so please bring a covered dish to share.  I just want it known that as far as Sunday School classes go, the Guiding Lights class can be the rowdiest!  Sometimes louder than the kids!  I can’t wait to hear what they’ll be getting to do!

Wednesday, April 1, from 10:00-11:30 a.m. will be a MOPS small group meeting, where moms get some grown-up fellowship time while their littles are being watched and loved on.  An hour and a half…grown-up time…enjoy, moms!  There will be a MOPS playdate two weeks after on Wednesday, April 15, also from 10:00-11:30 a.m.

There will be a Church Work day on Saturday, April 4, from 8:00-noon. Please come and help freshen up God’s house.  Remember that some people only come to church two times a year and Easter is one of them. Let’s prepare to receive them!

Sunday, April 5, is Easter Sunday!  He is risen!  The Annie Armstrong Easter Mission offering will be taken and sent to help missionaries working within the borders of the U.S. and Canada.  Extra envelopes are on the table in the foyer if you would like to turn in your offering early.  Because of the holiday, there will be no evening activities.  Enjoy the time with your friends and families!  He is risen, indeed!

On Friday, April 17, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. and Saturday, April 18, from 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m., Pastor Rick Cobb will be leading a Youth and Adult Sunday School teacher training retreat.  This will be a great opportunity to become better equipped to lead your classes and be more effective at discipling your students.  Again this retreat is for teachers of high school on up.  I may have heard something about pizza?  That might be worth the price of admission right there!  Just sayin’!

Last up, final chance to fill out a green sheet to let lovely Miss Sue know how you would like to be contacted by the church with updates and other tidbits of information.  Any names that can be taken off the phone tree list, and updated by e-mail notification instead, will help cut down the 3+ hours it is taking to get to everyone currently.  That’s it for April!  Now go out and tell somebody just how good God has been to YOU!

OK, so February went by pretty fast and, I’ll be honest, I’m glad!  Not too much snow, unlike last year; but a little too cold for my taste, like last year!  So let us prepare to endure just a few more weeks of winter, because spring will be here before we know it. (I’ll be that person standing with my nose up to the window looking out to spot that first bit of green…C’mon 50 degrees!  Sorry, I can be annoying that way!  I digress…)

Here are the Coming Attractions for the month of March:

Sunday, March 1, at Noon, is a Special Business Meeting. It’s important you be there!

Wednesday, March 4, from 10am to 11:30 will be MOPS Small Group time.  If you have any questions, please call Meredith Lund at 592-4405 as she knows all the biz about MOPS!  You go, girl!

Tuesday, March 10, will be the first night for the new Ladies Bible study from 6:30 to 8pm.  The study will be on Hebrews Chapter 11 and the study is titled “Sweeter Than Chocolate.”  Books for the study are $10 (due 3/10) and you’ll need to sign up by Wednesday, March 4, to have a book ordered for you.  Teen girls are encouraged to join too.  You can find the sign-up sheet on the table in the foyer. See you there, ladies! Because chocolate!  HELLO?!  Yep, uh-huh…you know what I’m talkin’ about!

Wednesday, March 18, is another MOPS day!  Busy, busy, busy!  There will be a play date from 10am to 11:30am.  See above for Meredith’s details if you have a question.

On Friday, March 20, the Youth will be going to Winter Jam in Indy.  Each person needs to bring $20 for their expenses for the night.  They will leave from the church at 4pm and will return around midnight.  Each teen will need to have a release form filled out and returned to Derron Connor in order to attend.  He will call parents when they leave to come home, to give a better idea of their return time…I’m thinking an early evening nap may be in order here…ugh, midnight….

Continue to pray for more Jr. Church teachers (must be church members) and Extended Session Childcare workers.  The specific needs are listed in the church bulletin, so check them out! Contact Pastor Garry, Pastor Rick or Sue if you can help.

Last item…New phone directory information updates.  Please turn in your contact info to Sue so she has complete and correct information for the church to reach you for the next year.  When email addresses, phone numbers, home address, etc. are changed, it’s easy, in our busy lives, to overlook some who should be notified of the updated information. Let’s all help make this part of Sue’s job a bit easier.

…..see you next month….

February 2015 Newsletter

WHAT’S GOIN’ ON?! Newsletter

Well 2015 has officially arrived!  How has God blessed you so far this year?  Are you looking for where He is working in your life?  I hope so!  He has been active in our church adding the Cobb, Miller, Blystone and Smith families as new members.  Also, Lori Jones began a 5-week Bible study equipping many of our ladies on how to study the Bible.

Here’s what you can look forward to in the month of February…The Ladies Bible study will finish up their last two nights on Tuesday, February 3 and 10.  The Women’s Retreat, “Transformed,” will take place in Indianapolis on Friday and Saturday, February 6 and 7.  Both look to be such blessings for the ladies of our church!  Enjoy, ladies!

Sunday, February 8, will be another one of those “pack a lunch and a pillow” days!  Let’s break it down!  A Council meeting will be held at 8:30 a.m., with a Church business meeting following the morning worship service.  The Deacons will be meeting at 4:00 p.m. doing whatever good things they do!  252 activities will begin at 5:00 p.m. with prayer. Lesson time on the subject of “kindness” will end by 7:30 p.m.  Teens and adults…we have something for you too!  Your lesson time starts at 6:00 p.m., so come on over!  We’d love to see you, and you might even like it!

Saturday, February 14, will be a church work day from 8:00 a.m. until noon.  I know that is Valentine’s Day, but my only response to that is…Who is your first love?  ‘Nuff said!  See you there!

A Mothers of Pre-Schoolers (MOPS) group is being formed.  If you are interested in helping or joining, see one of the following ladies:  Meredith Lund, Lainey McCrory, Patty Pound or Lori Jones.

If you are not currently serving in Extended Session or Jr. Church, we really need you!  Check with Claudia Overpeck, Sue or Pastor Garry to find out how you can help in Extended Session.  Talk with Pam Melloh or Pastor Garry to help with Jr. Church.  Be a blessing to the young families that are attending our church…I’m sure you will be blessed in return!

The Alaskan Mission trip won’t happen until August 3 through 7, but Doug and Regina Overpeck need to purchase the plane tickets soon to get the best possible price.  If you have been thinking/praying about going, you need to let them know ASAP!

Finally, FYI…here are the members of the Operation/Planning Team:  Matt Miller, Qynn McCrory, Gary Overpeck, Hal Robb, Pastor Garry and Pastor Rick.  The team is meeting weekly and will take over many of the decision making issues that our Deacons have handled in the past.  This will free up our Deacons to focus their efforts on serving our church family.  Please be praying for these men as they seek the direction God has planned for our church.
