WHAT’S GOIN’ ON?! Newsletter for August 2019

Hurray! We’ve survived the scorching heat of July! I was feeling just a tad crabby towards the end. How about you? School is starting back up, so rejoice ye parents! Here are all the goings-on for the month of August…

Sunday, August 4, is the day of meetings and All.The.Things. There is a Council meeting at 8:30am, a Business meeting at Noon, and a Missions meeting at 12:30pm. The Varsity Youth will be meeting immediately after church at the Suttons for their Back-To-School event. Teens, bring your swimsuit and a side of something edible, because y’all eat like the locusts from Exodus!
If that isn’t enough excitement for you, there is also a Church Fellowship at 5:30pm, so bring your favorite vittles and your best conversation tidbits to share.
If that still isn’t enough excitement for you, you can Pray the Halls at Parke Heritage High School from
6:00-7:00pm. Whew!

Wednesday, August 7, is the first day of school and to celebrate, the JV Youth will be having a Back-To-School Pizza Party at 6:30pm. Varsity Youth gets the night off to read Shakespeare.

Saturday, August 10, is the SCBI Missions Lifeline Training Conference at Calvary Baptist in Greenfield, IN. This is really for the entire family…kids PreK-6th grade will have a Missions Mini Camp and their lunch is free. Adults and teens can have lunch provided for $5. See Pastor Robert IMMEDIATELY to get signed up…RUN, don’t walk! You only have until August 1st to register.
Oh! And don’t forget there is also a church work day from 8am-Noon this day! Help is always appreciated!

Sunday, August 11, we will be having a Teachers Planning Meeting following the morning service. Lunch and child care will be provided. Please RSVP with either Ms. Sue or Deb to ensure we have enough hands for the littles, as well as plenty of grub. Be sure to watch the (4) videos you should have received through email, as we will be discussing them at the meeting.

Wednesday, August 14, TeamKID will start up for the 2019-2020 school year! Consider how can you serve this ministry this year? Ask Gary or Claudia Overpeck for details!
JV and Varsity Youth will be back in full swing then, too. Dinner starts at 5:45pm, with lesson time from 6:30-7:30pm. See you and all your kiddos there!

Sunday, August 25 at 5:30pm, the Missions team will welcome guest speaker and Operation Christmas Child spokesperson, Alina Aisina. She is a “Full Circle” shoebox recipient. Don’t know what that means? Come to the program and find out! This event will take place in the Fellowship Hall, with a meal and childcare to be provided by the Missions team. Come meet Alina and OCC representative, Marjorie Tate, to learn how the boxes you put together get in the hands of children all over the world to make an eternal difference.

Still got time on your hands, and looking for even more to occupy your time?? Gotcha covered! Go sort out all those unwanted shoes that you’ve stashed in your closet or under you bed! Our youth groups are collecting shoes for the ongoing BCM Shoe Drive. Shoes can be new or used, for all ages of kids or adults, and all sizes and styles! Just be sure they are gently worn, and in wearable condition. Before you bring your “unwanted’s” to the church, please be helpful, and tie the laced-up shoe pairs together, and rubber-band all other shoe pairs together! Makes sorting and packing all those shoes so much easier!!

WHAT’s Goin’ On? – September 2018

We are knee-deep in the busyness that comes with the beginning of a new school year! Make sure to read your weekly announcement emails and bulletins to have the latest and greatest information because…life! Sometimes adjustments need to be made.

On Wednesday, September 5, we will be starting back with our Wednesday night programming for our kiddos. There are a few changes so please read carefully.  TeamKID (Kids in Discipleship) is for children currently in Kindergarten thru 5th grade. You have 3 ways to sign up your kids: (1) Fill out the insert (one for each child) in the bulletin (also can be found on the ‘book table’ in the foyer) and, parents, make sure to write your names and contact information on the back of the form, (2) Go to the church website (fbcrockville.com), scroll down to and click on the TeamKID logo and follow the instructions, (3) Go to the church Facebook page, find the TeamKID post and click on the ‘info’ link. All students will need to be checked in and out at the front desk by a parent or authorized adult (safety first!) and dinner will begin at 5:45pm (15 minutes earlier than years past) and will end promptly at 6:20pm, so make sure you leave plenty of time. All tables and chairs will be put away and the area cleaned up for TeamKID activities to start at 6:30pm in the Fellowship Hall. Mommas and Dads are encouraged to stay and enjoy dinner with their kids.

Also on Wednesday, September 5, there will be a new class geared especially for the parents of our TeamKIDers! This class will meet in the church sanctuary from 6:30-7:30pm. The first topic that will be covered is (UN)Cluttered, a 6-week course on money and time management. This is a great opportunity to connect with the parents in our community who would not typically stay for a Bible study. (UN)Cluttered can meet them where they are and also give practical help for issues faced by many families today. For those of you who prefer the older Bible study format, don’t worry! The usual Wednesday night Bible study will continue to meet in the library at 6:30pm.

Church Photo Directory pictures are Sept 10, 11, 12, from 2-9pm! If you have questions, check with Kaitlynn Overpeck. Make your appointment either with Kaitlynn on Sunday or call 1-866-756-0281. Church membership is not required to be included in the directory, so if you feel FBC Rockville is your ‘home’ church, you are welcome to participate. I’m out of space, people! I’ll see you next month! Be intentional!

WHAT’S GOIN’ ON?! Newsletter
It’s time to be talkin’ turkey, people! Let me hear your Gobble! Gobble! I hope you’ve been making space in your diets and getting plenty of exercise to prepare for the gluttony of Thanksgiving Day! I think it would be better to enjoy the meal slowly, a little at a time, over the period of a week instead of cramming it in one day, but that’s just my opinion! I just need some pie and half a can of Reddi-Wip…and maybe a walk…you know, to make room for more pie! Shhh! Don’t tell Claudia!
First up, I want to remind you to keep an eye on your bulletin for last minute changes, corrections (because I tend to talk without knowing what I’m talking about…bless!), and additions (because it’s hard to put one of these together a whole month early!). All the usual weekly activities will meet at their regularly scheduled times, with one exception: There’s NO Wed. Nov. 23 activities! Offices are closed Nov 23rd, Nov. 24th and Nov 25th for Thanksgiving.
The big news for the month is the Business Meeting on Sunday, November 6 after the morning service. The 2017 Budget Proposal, Missions Report, 2017 Ministry Leaders, etc. will be presented for consideration. As always, whenever there is a Business Meeting, there is a Council Meeting earlier that day at 8:30am…if you have something to present during the meeting, make sure to show up and get it put on the agenda.
Next up, parents and kids…Parents’ Night Out will be Saturdays, November 5 & 26, from 6-10pm. Operation Christmas Child boxes need to be turned in by Sunday, November 6 (this is such a busy, busy day!). The MoMs group will meet Wednesdays, November 9 & 23, from 10-11:30am, for Small Group and a Play Date, respectively. They could still use some extra hands loving littles for the November 9th date…remember when you dropped off your kiddos and they were crying? C’mon, people, hug a baby and give some moms 90 minutes to invest in themselves…mom self-care can be non-existent during this season, but it is so necessary!
On Sunday, November 13 at 4pm, The Deacons will be meeting to talk about all of us…no, seriously, about how they can serve and love on us…chase them down and give them a hug! I’m being serious, now…go hug your Deacon! The School Outreach Team will be meeting at 5pm to discuss how they are going to encourage Rockville HS teachers and staff in the coming months. Everyone is welcome to join the team, and help bless some of the people who are in the trenches loving on the teens of our community. See Lori Jones for details.
Last up for the month is Sunday, November 20. After the morning service is the annual Church Thanksgiving meal. Bring all your best fixins’ and desserts. Ham and turkey, potatoes and rolls will be provided. This is the beginning of the eating holidays, so pace yourselves! Afterward, take a walk or a nap…your choice! Missions Team…y’all will be napping & working together at your 4:30pm meeting November 20th! Good luck staying awake! Ugh…I’m full already!

Everyone take a deep breath and hold it. Now blow it out.  Good job!  You have made it through Fair Week!  Give yourselves a round of applause and prepare for the next bout of crazy called Back-To-School!  Woo Hoo!  Here’s what you need to know for the month of August…

Sunday, August 7, is the day of meetings! Yippee!  The Council meeting will start off the day at 8:30am. (Please have one member of each committee present.)  The Church Business meeting will begin approx. 5 minutes after the morning service.  You’ll want to stick around to vote on the issues at hand…it will be good practice for November, people!  Deacons will be meeting after having some lunch and a nap…4:00pm.  Whew!

Saturday, August 13, is Church Work Day from 8:00am-Noon! Calm down, y’all!  I know you’re desperate to spend time with one another and work together to care for the building God has blessed us with! (please ignore that that sentence ends in a preposition…I know, it’s driving me a little crazy, too…ugh!)  Focus, now!  Come and help!  And, yes, I’m talkin’ to you!  Moving on…

Sunday, August 14, will be a Church Fellowship. Start time will be at 6:00pm and watch the bulletin for where we’ll be meeting.  Bring your signature dish(es) and prepare to WOW everyone with your clever banter.  See you there! (wherever that is!)

OK, I’m going to get this right this time…the last Kids 252 Summer Fun event will be Wednesday, August 17, from 6pm-8pm at the church. Andy and Janine are setting up a Movie Night, but that’s all they are telling at the moment…oooh, I just love a good secret! Right?  Keep an eye on the bulletin for more info…

Sunday, August 21, at 4:30pm the Missions Team will be meeting. If you are interested in joining them, I’m sure they would love the company!  Last month they made bags for the many teachers we have in our congregation.  They even made one for little old me and can I just say how big an encouragement that was?!  It was just full up with love and awesomeness!  (sniff)

Last up for the month is Thursday, August 25, at 7:00pm. The Tribute Quartet will be presenting a FREE CONCERT of Southern Gospel music right here at FBC Rockville.  So if you would like to spend your evening listening to some really great music sung by people who can really sing it…get on over here and bring somebody with you!

And I ran out of room! Can you believe it?!  People, check your bulletins for other info I may have missed…Miss Sue has got your back!

July 2016 Newsletter

WHAT’S GOIN’ ON?! Newsletter

Believe it or not, people, we are halfway through 2016! The days are just flying by! Crazy, crazy, crazy! Sit yourself down with a big ole glass of sweet tea and let me tell you all the things you can do with your church family this month!

First up…you need to know that the church office will be closed on Monday, July 4, because…y’all…hamburgers, hot dogs, watermelon and sparklers! National holiday! It’s a thing! Whatever you need to ask Pastor Garry and Miss Sue…do that on Tuesday! OK?

Wednesday, July 6, come to Beechwood Park for some games and pool time. Games and snacks for our 252 kid and our Youth kids will start at 7:00pm and you can jump in the pool at 8:00 until 9:00’ish pm. There is no charge for the fun, unless you would like some additional snack items from the concession stand while swimming. Who’s invited, you ask? Well, 252 kids, Youth group kids, and their families and workers…that sounds like just about everyone to me! Check with Andy & Janine Sutton if you have any questions and they say you kids should bring a friend! Sounds like a good time!

Sunday, July 10 at 6:00pm, will be another Church-wide Pitch-In Fellowship. There will be no Bible study that evening…just some good food and good conversation! Look at it as an opportunity to relax before the craziness of the 4-H fair begins!

And that brings me to Sunday, July 24 at 7:00pm. There will be no Bible study that evening to give you the opportunity to go to the fairgrounds for Vesper Services. Such a nice blessing to be able to worship with our Christian neighbors within our county!

Sunday, July 31 at noon, there will be a 252 Kids Fall Planning Meeting. This meeting is for anyone who is willing to work or be a helper for the weekly 6:00pm Wednesday night 252 kids program.  252 will resume this fall on Wednesday, September 7. This meeting will be a pitch-in lunch immediately following Sunday morning service for those attending and also for their families…so no childcare needed (good thinking, Andy & Janine!) Those attending are asked to bring plenty of food to share. Andy & Janine will provide the drinks, tableware, and answers to any questions you may have…they’re so smart!

Last up, all the usual suspects…The Ladies’ Bible study will continue each Monday in July (except July 4) at 6:00pm. The Adult Bible study meets every Wednesday at 6:30pm. And not to be outdone, the Men’s Bible study will be meeting each Thursday night at 7:30pm. Our teens voted to continue Bible study through the summer and Chris & Molly Blystone were game enough to lead them! AWESOME! They meet at 6:00pm on Wednesdays, but on the 20th and the 27th of this month, they will not be meeting so Chris & Molly can have some vacation time with their littles.

That’s it! Put on some sunscreen and get back out there! I’ll see you next month!
